Chinese deception, Nehru's naivete led to '62 war: CIA papers

Full article in timesofindia.com:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chinese_deception_Nehrus_naivete_led_to_62_war_CIA/articleshow/2155130.cms

"In the three chapters dealing with the India-China border spat, CIA analysts suggest that Beijing and its them premier Zhou en Lai (the old spellings Peiping and Chou are used in the paper) consistently fooled Nehru and India through procrastination and dissembling.

The analysis says that Zhou repeatedly conned Nehru by telling him that there was really no border problem except for some "petty issues" which could be resolved by officials at lower levels. He also disarmed Nehru by pleading that Communist China had not had the time to revise maps from the old Kuomintang regime (which claimed areas that belonged to India.)

At the same time, the documents also paint a picture of India's first prime minister Nehru as a naïve, romantic statesman who was gullible enough to be taken for a ride by the Chinese. Nehru, say the first set of documents, even kept border incidents and rising disagreement with China out of Indian public domain in order to contain public opinion and to maintain his relationship with Zhou. SC stays OBC quota in Govt education institutes

Great news for the day !!

Link on sify.com
http://sify.com/news/fullstory.php?id=14419464

Some important points the bench made:

“SC has stayed the order on the Act saying to the Centre, ‘Don’t divide the country only because of your vote bank’ and that 'the consequences of this quota would be very bad'."

The Bench stated that Section 6 of the Constitution was not applicable since no data on OBCs has been collected in the last 76 years.

The Bench said that the OBC quota was just vote back politics and said it was forced to take the decision against the Government as the Government did not implement the SC's last two orders.

The Bench, reprimanding the Centre, also said that the Centre should stay away from dividing the society on caste basis and should behave in a more responsible way. It said the Government's decision to implement the quota system was full of flaws.

ASHA PROJECTS:Where does all the money go?

ASHA PROJECTS:Where does all the money go? by Nirupama Rajan and Radha Rajan
Saturday, September 23, 2006

This chapter is Chapter 8 in the book “NGOs, Activists and Foreign Funds: Anti-nation Industry” (Ed. Radha Rajan and Krishen Kak, Vigil Public Opinion Forum, 2006) and focuses on foreign funds received by Sandeep Pandey’s ASHA. In this chapter, we will be looking at some of the projects that ASHA has funded in India by raising money from across the U.S and Europe. And yet, Sandeep Pandey when questioned about ‘foreign funds’, refused the claim and declared that ‘on principle’ he was against foreign funds. We present the news report that carried Sandeep Pandey’s preposterous claim at the end and present tChapter 8 of the Vigil book online for readers to judge for themselves not only ASHA’s accounting practices but also the motives behind awarding the Magsaysay.

Jammu and Kashmir more free than all of Pakistan

Full story on Hindustan Times:
http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1915689,0008.htm

In a damning indictment of Islamabad's "propaganda" about Jammu and Kashmir, a new report says the Indian-administered part of the state is "more free" than all of Pakistan, whose support of the "freedom struggle" in the Himalayan state has "little justification".

The "Freedom in the World-2007" report of the US-based Freedom House "totally dismisses the global propaganda war orchestrated by Pakistan against India on the issue of Kashmir," the NGO said.

"Comparisons of the ratings show up the 'freedom struggle' launched by separatists in Jammu and Kashmir as having little justification and Pakistan's posturing as being hypocritical considering how poorly Pakistan itself is rated," it added.

SC notice to Centre on 27 per cent OBC quota

http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/001200701311970.htm

As usual, CPI(M) champions of equality were whining about "separation of authorities of the three arms of the State (Executive, Legislative and Judiciary)". This is classic act of confusing the people, when you don't have enough armour to defend the controversial law in question. Also they were careful enough not to be held in contempt of the court.

Link on the same newspaper (very quick to publish this as well)
http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/001200701311971.htm

Probably they think that politicians are more than equal (from the standard commies formula: All are equal, some are more than equal) and executive arm can bend and twist the arm of legislative and to the extent of twisting the 3rd arm as well. They may probably know this, if not let's remind them. There is something called a constituitional framework which can't be broken even by the executive.

Mani Shankar Iyer exposed by Karan Thapar

In his "Devil's advocate" interview, Karan Thapar thoroughly exposed the "champion of secularism" Mani Shankar who became speechless, pointless and even took it personal on the interviewer. It only proved the vote-bank politics where the Congress party and its shameless politicians like Mani Shankar Iyer are the real champions and their dubious secular credentials.

On one hand he says that 95% of PM's speech is on economic categories. But when it comes to 20 million people who're below poverty line but in forward castes, he wants to exclude them as a social category. Two different scales for two different sections ? Absolute non-sense. BS on the PM's part and his defenders. In trying to make fool of the people, Mani Shankar Iyer had made a fool of himself (only in public) in this interview. People who voted him for LokSabha must be regretting their action. What you sow is what you reap.

A must read for every Indian citizen who believes in equality - one of the fundamental rights provided to them by the constituition of India. These politicians are only trying to break this foundation by using papers like Sachar report and alienating people from the mainstream.

Karan ended his interview with a note that the defence that the PMO and perhaps in the sense the defence you are putting up today yourself, echo to my mind Humpty Dumpty in the Allice in Wonderland, who said, “I use words to mean what I want them to mean.” Which is perfect, except that it makes conversation very difficult and it leads to misunderstanding. Surely that’s the problem in it.

May God give Karan Thapar a long life !!

Nathuram Godse's confession

Godse's defense speech in court confession. This is the speech given by nathuram godse in the court when he was tried for the murder of M K Gandhi....really hard-hitting.
------
Born in a devotional Brahmin family, I instinctively came to revere Hindu religion, Hindu history and Hindu culture. I had, therefore, been intensely proud of Hinduism as a whole. As I grew up I developed a tendency to free thinking unfettered by any
superstitious allegiance to any isms, political or religious. That is why I worked actively for the eradication of untouchability and the caste system based on birth alone. I openly joined anti-caste movements and maintained that all Hindus were of equal status as to rights, social and religious and should be considered high or low on merit alone and not through the accident of birth in a particular caste or profession. I used publicly to take part in organized anti-caste dinners in which thousands of Hindus, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, Chamars and Bhangis articipated. We broke the caste rules and dined in the company of each other.

I have read the speeches and writings of Dadabhai Naoroji, Vivekanand, Gokhale, Tilak, along with the books of ancient and modern history of India and some prominent countries like England, France, America and' Russia. Moreover I studied the tenets of Socialism and Marxism. But above all I studied very closely whatever
Veer Savarkar and Gandhiji had written and spoken, as to my mind these two ideologies have contributed more to the moulding of the thought and action of the Indian people during the last thirty years or so, than any other single factor has done.

All this reading and thinking led me to believe it was my first duty to serve Hindudom and Hindus both as a patriot and as a world citizen. To secure the freedom and to safeguard the just interests of some thirty crores (300 million) of Hindus would automatically constitute the freedom and the well-being of all India , one fifth of human race. This conviction led me naturally to devote myself to the Hindu Sanghtanist ideology and programme, which alone, I came to believe, could win and preserve the national independence of Hindustan , my Motherland, and enable her to render true service to humanity as well.

Since the year 1920, that is, after the demise of Lokamanya Tilak, Gandhiji's influence in the Congress first increased and then became supreme. His activities for public awakening were phenomenal in their intensity and were reinforced by the slogan of truth and non-violence which he paraded ostentatiously before the country. No sensible or enlightened person could object to those slogans. In fact there is nothing new or original in them. They are implicit in every constitutional public movement. But it is nothing but a mere dream if you imagine that the bulk of mankind is, or can ever become, capable of scrupulous adherence to these lofty principles in
its normal life from day to day. In fact, hunour, duty and love of one's own kith and kin and country might often compel us to disregard non-violence and to use force. I could never conceive that an armed resistance to an aggression is unjust. I would consider it a religious and moral duty to resist and, if possible, to
overpower such an enemy by use of force. [In the Ramayana] Rama killed Ravana in a tumultuous fight and relieved Sita. [In the Mahabharata], Krishna killed Kansa to end his wickedness; and Arjuna had to fight and slay quite a number of his friends and relations including the revered Bhishma because the latter was on the side of
the aggressor. It is my firm belief that in dubbing Rama, Krishna and Arjuna as guilty of violence, the Mahatma betrayed a total ignorance of the springs of human action.

In more recent history, it was the heroic fight put up by Chhatrapati Shivaji that first checked and eventually destroyed the Muslim tyranny in India . It was absolutely essentially for Shivaji to overpower and kill an aggressive Afzal Khan, failing which he would have lost his own life. In condemning history's towering
warriors like Shivaji, Rana Pratap and Guru Gobind Singh as misguided patriots, Gandhiji has merely exposed his self-conceit. He was, paradoxical as it may appear, a violent pacifist who brought untold calamities on the country in the name of truth and non-violence, while Rana Pratap, Shivaji and the Guru will remain enshrined in the hearts of their countrymen for ever for the freedom they brought to them.

The accumulating provocation of thirty-two years, culminating in his last pro-Muslim fast, at last goaded me to the conclusion that the existence of Gandhi should be brought to an end immediately. Gandhi had done very good in South Africa to uphold the rights and well-being of the Indian community there. But when he finally returned to India he developed a subjective mentality under which he alone was
to be the final judge of what was right or wrong. If the country wanted his leadership, it had to accept his infallibility; if it did not, he would stand aloof from the Congress and carry on his own way. Against such an attitude there can be no halfway house. Either Congress had to surrender its will to his and had to be content with playing second fiddle to all his eccentricity, whimsicality,
metaphysics and primitive vision, or it had to carry on without him. He alone was the Judge of everyone and every thing; he was the master brain guiding the civil disobedience movement; no other could know the technique of that movement. He alone knew when to begin and when to withdraw it. The movement might succeed or fail, it might bring untold disaster and political reverses but that could make no difference to the Mahatma's infallibility. 'A Satyagrahi can never fail' was his formula for declaring his own infallibility and nobody except himself knew what a Satyagrahi is.

Thus, the Mahatma became the judge and jury in his own cause. These childish insanities and obstinacies, coupled with a most severe austerity of life, ceaseless work and lofty character made Gandhi formidable and irresistible. Many people thought that his politics were irrational but they had either to withdraw from the Congress or place their intelligence at his feet to do with as he liked. In a
position of such absolute irresponsibility Gandhi was guilty of blunder after blunder, failure after failure, disaster after disaster.

Gandhi's pro-Muslim policy is blatantly in his perverse attitude on the question of the national language of India . It is quite obvious that Hindi has the most prior claim to be accepted as the premier language. In the beginning of his career in India, Gandhi gave a great impetus to Hindi but as he found that the Muslims did not like it, he became a champion of what is called Hindustani. Everybody in India knows that there is no language called Hindustani; it has no grammar; it has no vocabulary. It is a mere dialect, it is spoken, but not written. It is a bastard tongue and cross-breed between Hindi and Urdu, and not even the Mahatma's sophistry could make it popular. But in his desire to please the Muslims he insisted that
Hindustani alone should be the national language of India . His blind followers, of course, supported him and the so-called hybrid language began to be used. The charm and purity of the Hindi language was to be prostituted to please the Muslims. All his experiments were at the expense of the Hindus.

From August 1946 onwards the private armies of the Muslim League began a massacre of the Hindus. The then Viceroy, Lord Wavell, though distressed at what was happening, would not use his powers under the Government of India Act of 1935 to prevent the rape, murder and arson. The Hindu blood began to flow from Bengal to Karachi with some retaliation by the Hindus. The Interim Government formed in September was sabotaged by its Muslim League members right from its inception, but the more they became disloyal and treasonable to the government of which they were a part, the greater was Gandhi's infatuation for them. Lord Wavell had to resign as he could not bring about a settlement and he was succeeded by Lord Mountbatten. King Log was followed by King Stork.

The Congress which had boasted of its nationalism and socialism secretly accepted Pakistan literally at the point of the bayonet and abjectly surrendered to Jinnah. India was vivisected and one-third of the Indian territory became foreign land to us from August 15, 1947. Lord Mountbatten came to be described in Congress circles as
the greatest Viceroy and Governor-General this country ever had. The official date for handing over power was fixed for June 30, 1948 , but Mountbatten with his ruthless surgery gave us a gift of vivisected India ten months in advance. This is what Gandhi had achieved after thirty years of undisputed dictatorship and this is
what Congress party calls 'freedom' and 'peaceful transfer of power'. The Hindu-Muslim unity bubble was finally burst and a theocratic state was established with the consent of Nehru and his crowd and they have called 'freedom won by them with sacrifice' - whose sacrifice? When top leaders of Congress, with the consent of
Gandhi, divided and tore the country - which we consider a deity of worship - my mind was filled with direful anger.

One of the conditions imposed by Gandhi for his breaking of the fast unto death related to the mosques in Delhi occupied by the Hindu refugees. But when Hindus in Pakistan were subjected to violent attacks he did not so much as utter a single word to protest and censure the Pakistan Government or the Muslims concerned. Gandhi was
shrewd enough to know that while undertaking a fast unto death, had he imposed for its break some condition on the Muslims in Pakistan , there would have been found hardly any Muslims who could have shown some grief if the fast had ended in his death. It was for this reason that he purposely avoided imposing any condition on the Muslims. He was fully aware of from the experience that Jinnah was not at all perturbed or influenced by his fast and the Muslim League hardly attached any value to the inner voice of Gandhi.

Gandhi is being referred to as the Father of the Nation. But if that is so, he had failed his paternal duty inasmuch as he has acted very treacherously to the nation by his consenting to the partitioning of it. I stoutly maintain that Gandhi has failed in his duty. He has proved to be the Father of Pakistan. His inner-voice, his spiritual power and his doctrine of non-violence of which so much is made of,
all crumbled before Jinnah's iron will and proved to be powerless.

Briefly speaking, I thought to myself and foresaw I shall be totally ruined, and the only thing I could expect from the people would be nothing but hatred and that I shall have lost all my honour, even more valuable than my life, if I were to kill Gandhiji. But at the same time I felt that the Indian politics in the absence of Gandhiji would surely be proved practical, able to retaliate, and would be
powerful with armed forces. No doubt, my own future would be totally ruined, but the nation would be saved from the inroads of Pakistan . People may even call me and dub me as devoid of any sense or foolish, but the nation would be free to follow the course founded on the reason which I consider to be necessary for sound nation-
building. After having fully considered the question, I took the final decision in the matter, but I did not speak about it to anyone whatsoever. I took courage in both my hands and I did fire the shots at Gandhiji on 30th January 1948 , on the prayer-grounds of Birla House.

I do say that my shots were fired at the person whose policy and action had brought rack and ruin and destruction to millions of Hindus. There was no legal machinery by which such an offender could be brought to book and for this reason I fired those fatal shots.

I bear no ill will towards anyone individually but I do say that I had no respect for the present government owing to their policy which was unfairly favourable towards the Muslims. But at the same time I could clearly see that the policy was entirely due to the presence of Gandhi. I have to say with great regret that Prime
Minister Nehru quite forgets that his preachings and deeds are at times at variances with each other when he talks about India as a secular state in season and out of season, because it is significant to note that Nehru has played a leading role in the establishment of the theocratic state of Pakistan, and his job was made easier by Gandhi's persistent policy of appeasement towards the Muslims.

I now stand before the court to accept the full share of my responsibility for what I have done and the judge would, of course, pass against me such orders of sentence as may be considered proper. But I would like to add that I do not desire any mercy to be shown to me, nor do I wish that anyone else should beg for mercy on my
behalf. My confidence about the moral side of my action has not been shaken even by the criticism levelled against it on all sides. I have no doubt that honest writers of history will weigh my act and find the true value thereof some day in future.

-NATHURAM GODSE

Becoming developed is still a challenge: M Singh

True, as long as Congress is in power.

But think about it, he has the luxury that he was not even an elected LokSabha MP. He was an appointed PM, so he can screw the nation however he wants as he is not answerable to the people.

Muslims must have first claim to resources - Manmohan Singh

Guess the Congress party is not satisfied with one bloody partition that happened 59 years ago. They're sowing the seeds for another one. Take a look at their progress in this front:

1. Joint Anti terror mechanism with the sponsors of terrorism
2. Unchecked illegal immigration from Bangladesh
3. Failure to execute the convicted in parliament attack case
4. Sachar report
5. Banarjee report - that Godhra was an accident
6. Quota bill
and the list goes on.......

Parliament attack victims’ kin return medals

Nothing could be said better than this to act immediately on the death sentence of the convicted. Instead of acting on it, the home ministry,

1. says it could take over 7 years on deciding on a clemency petition.
2. issues a warning to the relatives of the attack victims.

This is the sad state of the Indian vote-bank politics.

Kashmiris finally pay income tax

In the last 10 years alone, the central Govt spent Rs 43500 crores -roughly the taxpayers in other states paid around Rs435/- But these Indian citizens can't exercise the fundamental rights as Indian citizens if they want to live in Kashmir and can't acquire land in Kashmir, so much for the special status accorded by article 370. Kashmir has its own policy of who would be considered as the "citizens" of the Kashmir state. They don't want people from other parts of India to live in Kashmir but they want their blood money to pay their expenses. so that they can merrily drink the blood of Kashmiri Hindus and Indian soldiers. India is losing at an average, one Soldier a day in the security operations.

The Govt should stop supplying the funds without any accountability to this state and let it stand on its own. We don't know for sure where this money goes considering the social wellfare schemes being announced by the Kashmir Govt and the NGOs functioning in that state. With all the restrictions of the article-370, the state would go bankrupt overnight. So the best solution is to abolish article-370 at once and integrate the state to the mainstream as any other state in our country.

One wonders if RTI (Right to Information act) which is available in India will be applicable to this state. If so, we must ask the Govt, how our tax money was spent in this state.

The article mentions that "Corporate India has largely stayed away from Kashmir through the insurgency. Even apart from the violence, land acquisition has been a key problem. Outsiders cannot own land in the state due to its special status."

SC trashes Union notification on foreigners

From the news:

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down as unconstitutional a Central government notification that says a complainant must prove that the accused person is of foreign origin.

A bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Markandeya Katju also directed the Union government to constitute sufficient number of tribunals to detect alleged infiltration of thousands of Bangladeshis into Assam.
---------------------------------------

Thank God, we've a Supreme Court in our country.

There appears to be no intention of the Govt. in solving the illegal immigration/infiltration problems. When people are normally scared of filing complaints with authorities on such issues, it makes it worse when the authority puts the onus on the complainant to prove that the accused person was of foreign origin. It just pushes the honest citizens away from taking up issues. After all the good Governance as taught by Chanakya is only if you involve honest and participating citizens.

Christianity and Untouchablity

They work overtime to convert Dalits to christianity offering social equality. But the reality is very very different. They have even a seperate burial place. So much for the champions of equality and social justice. On top of this the church wants the Government to extend the SC status, quota, reservations etc. Why ? Aren't they socially forward after conversion ? Apparently the Church authorities don't think so, as asking for reservation is their foremost agenda. Utter hypocrisy and the Dalits fall in this trap.

It's high time that all Dalits take a correct course and not to fall in the trap of missionaries hyprocrites., and consider the path preached by saints like NarayanaGuru instead of small monetary gains being thrown at them by the missionaries. Dalits are the people of the land and must follow the Hindu way of life. They must work hard, educate their children and make progress. There are scores of even upper class hindus living below poverty level but never demand for reservations etc. Instead they invest in their children's education, so that their further generations will have a chance to lead a better life.

Not many know the Indian past he had discovered!

S Gurumurthy presenting Dharam Pal's research in his article on newindpress.com. All Hindus must read this and rediscover their past., an advanced civilisation in the whole world. Hindus need not have to be apologetic about the caste system which is very noble if one understands the roots of it. They must also understand that all the caste based problems and divisions were the products of the colonial rule., and the post-freedom politicians are no better than the British, and they merrily continued the divide and rule tactics. If the caste-system that existed pre-colonial rule had been so evil as portrayed by the so called seculars or liberals, it would have been a disaster and India couldn't have produced the 25% of industrial output of the world in those days.

ISI trying to infiltrate armed forces: Defence minister

Is it right ? wow, what a great discovery, great job Mr Mukherjee!! Is your boss aware of it, if not do let him know. He would love to setup an joint anti-infiltration mechanism with them.

Armyman caught handing documents to Pak spy

May be we need a joint anti-spy mechanism in place, I'm sure Mr M Singh would love that.

And we should also have the following:
Joint anti-theft mechanism with thieves
Joint anti-corruption mechanism with corrupt ministers and officials
Joint anti-murder mechanism with murderers
Joint nationalists mechanism with anti-nationals
...

Cry my beloved country, for what your children have done to thee !!

Think of victim's family before pardoning convicts: SC

The timing of the ruling couldn't have been better.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the powers of the President and governors to grant pardon to a convict or to reduce the sentence imposed on him were subject to judicial review. It recently quashed a decision of an AP Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde, to remit the sentence of a convicted congress activist.

The Justices also said, the President and governors have to keep in mind the effect of such pardon on the family of the victim.

All those who're seeking for clemency for a person sentenced to death penalty in the parliament attack case should think about the victims who died in protecting the Parliamant and those who died in the cross fire and their families. Even after 5 years, some of the families of the victims have not received the compensation announced by the Dikshit government in Delhi. Whoever protest for clemency of the convicted may do justice to those who died in the attack, if they protest the delay in Delhi Govt's not paying the compensation.

Arundhati Roy makes a case for Afzal

What else can we expect from such people ?

"
Roy, who said she is participating in the protest because she is against death penalty, also added, "The whole case is full of faulty evidence and fabricated stories and to hang someone for something he may not have done is not fair." She demanded a Parliamentary inquiry into the case.
"

When she says that she was participating because she was against death penalty, why does she also say that the whole case is full of faulty evidence ? So the intention of the protest is not against the death penalty. Protesting death panalty is different from criticizing the case. Why is she trying to conduct the street or media trial here ?? Apart from writing, has she started practising the law ? For a case which took around 5 years for the judiciary to convict the accused, her performance of passing judgement is pretty impressive. :-)

Interestingly the sit-in was organized by S A R Geelani who was acquitted in the case earlier. So the acquittal of one is fair and the conviction of another is unfair ?

Mumbai police cracks 7/11 blasts case

Addressing media persons, Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy said Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence was the 'mastermind' behind the terror attacks carried out by Lashkar-e-Tayiba with help from Students of Islamic Movement of India activists.

Is Dr Singh "supposedly PM of India" listening to this ? Does he still stand by his statement that Pak was also a victim of terror from its own ISI and his clean chit almost absolving Pak from terrorist acts in our country ? How stupid ? Isn't it a tight slap on his face who proposed a joint anti-terror mechanism undermining our own agencies ?

'Lot of fabrication' in Musharraf's book: Gen Malik

One could only pity the publisher who had allegedly paid more than a million for a book of lies. Let's not worry about that. Our concern must be whether India should engage in talks with Pak with such a liar as its head ?

I still remember the days of Kargil war, when Pak refused to accept the bodies of their own dead regular soldiers and Indian army gave an honorable burial to those soldiers.

Pak during and after the war maintained that its army was not involved in this operation and hence accepting of those bodies would mean that it was lying about the involvement of its army. Till the war of words between Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf recently, this was Pak's stand. Musharraf in his own words and his book had accepted that Pak army was involved and he was the architect of the operation.

-----------------
From Rediff.com
Describing Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as a timid general, former Indian Army chief Gen V P Malik on Tuesday said there was a lot of fabrication about the Kargil conflict in his book In the Line of Fire.

"The book is stingy on truth. From the accounts I have read, it appears to be a narration with no references and there appears to be a lot of fabrication," Malik, who was the army chief during the 1999 conflict, told PTI.

On Musharraf's claims that the then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had decided to withdraw troops from strategic features in Kargil sector, Malik said, "In his book Musharraf comes across as a timid general and seems to be passing the buck to Sharif."

Dismissing claims of mujahideen carrying out the Kargil operation, he said Musharraf in his book had admitted to the participation of the Northern Light Infantry in the fighting, supported by other regular troops.

Violence has reduced in J&K: PM - Is that true Mr PM ?

Neither IB thinks so nor the defence ministry. Appears that the PM's stockholm syndrome has intensified. He and his cabinet ministers are in different planes. Either he doesn't know the reality or doesn't want to see what he doesn't want to, in the backdrop of his recent agreement with the Pak president.

Also he considers the incidents of violence and terrorism as some stray incidents - may be he can give a new definition of what is terrorist act and what is a stray incident ? Loss of lives of citizens seem to be a stray incident for the honorable prime minister.

Dr Singh's Stockholm Syndrome

B Raman in Rediff.com, doesn't mince words in highlighting the stupidity of the Govt in setting up the joint anti-terror mechanism with Pak when the west is growing wary of the Pak General's sincerety in his support to war on terrorism.

He even compares this to a scenario in which Bush and Blair accepting a proposal from the Laden for a joint anti-terrorism cooperation mechanism.

He also emphasizes the fact that there has not been a single instance in which the Paks have extended a legal assistance since its formation in 1947.

Excerpts from the article:
---
At a time when a growing number of Western analysts and policy-makers have begun doubting the sincerity of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and suspecting that he has been playing a double role -- openly as a front-line ally in the war against terrorism and covertly as a supporter of Pakistan-based jihadi terrorists -- our prime minister has sought to play down the extent of Musharraf's perfidy with regard to jihadi terrorism directed against India from Pakistani territory with the help of organisations such as Lashkar which operate under the control of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.

It is apparent that the prime minister has no meaningful policy to propose to the people to deal with jihadi terrorism. He does not know how to deal with Musharraf.

Indo-Pak foreign secy-level talks to resume

Same s***, different day. So much for the lives lost and so much for the rhetoric of Mr Singh. Let's expect more buses, more cricket, movies, high profile visits, bollywood star visits and writings about the hospitality they received from their hosts across the border or the talks about feel at home in Lahore and life goes on..... There is no value for the citizens who lost their lives in the dastardly acts of terrorism or the soldiers dying everyday defending the nation.

In a related note, Singh and Musharraf decided to put in place an "India-Pakistan anti-terrorism institutional mechanism to identify and implement counter-terrorism initiatives and investigations." - Wow what a brilliant idea ? This is the height of stupidity. If Singh doesn't know how to run the country, he'd better step down. He and supposedly his Govt on the record accused Pak for sponsoring cross-border terrorism in the wake of bomb blasts all around the country and now he wants a joint setup with the same country for anti-terror mechanism. Are they trying to make a fool of themselves or our nation ?

NCERT bookmarks Godhra, Sikh riots, and Emergency too

Very interesting topics in the political science text books of Grade 12. BTW do they have Artha Sastra in the syllabus ?

"However, the textbook writers will steer clear of any controversy and give information from Government sources."

- So we can assume that the students will get the real picture :)

"
"You cannot teach Political Science to students sidestepping the major events, which had significant influence on society and polity, no matter whether controversial or not," said Professor Yogendra Yadav, a member of the panel for preparation of Political Science textbooks.
"

- May be the NCERT should as a top priority talk about votebank politics, politics of dividing the country by religion and castes etc., and its influence on society.

"
The topics would give the established facts taken from Government sources, which cannot be disputed by anybody, he said adding that the text would also refrain from going into full details of the incidents.
"

- Don't go into full details ? NCERT should understand that studying is different from reading. You're talking about the curriculum of 12th Grade students.

"
The chapter on Gujarat riots will deal with an overview of the incident and the largescale killing of "people of a particular community", he said.
"

- Did he mean roasting of 59 people belonging to a community in the train ? Can someone explain this statement ?

"The topic will also give a human rights view and a counterview on the incident,"

- Do Hindus have human rights in India ? Last time I checked, they didn't have one.

Pluto out, mickey mouse in

Recently the scientific community decided to drop Pluto out of the our solar system. Interestingly Indian school of Astronomy and Astrology never considered Pluto as one of the Grahas, not even Neptune or Uranus. We always considered 7 Grahas (hence 7 days a week), 2 shadows (Rahu and Ketu) - a total of 9 Grahas or NavaGraha.

Here is a nice article on the Shrinking of the Solar System and Vedic Astrology - from sify.com.

Pluto is out. Most people I meet these days are asking me this 1-
dollar question, "Now what does this mean to you and astrology".
First of all, who said we included Pluto? We never gave a place in
your horoscope for even Uranus and Neptune, leave alone the tiny
Pluto which is smaller than the Moon.
Thousands of years ago, unknown to most of the gold medalist MBAs
and MBBSs, in the land of Astrology, the Indian Astronomers were far
ahead of the best Astronomers of today. The ancient seers had listed
1000s of comets in Brihat Samhita along with their names, when
comets were a puzzle to western Astronomers even 400 years ago and
they just saw the "light at the tail" of the comets. The formula by
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) is a duplicate of what our Astrologers
knew 5000 years ago or perhaps much before. Due to the absence of
proper documentation, the credit went to others who came in late but
had the advantage of the print media and European domination. In the
Rig Veda there are statements such as "Oh Sun, you are the centre of
our worlds, you are fixed and unmoving". Sun refers to our Soul, the
unchanging factor in our life.

A child once asked me "Uncle, are you telling the Sun is a planet?"
I replied, "We never call them planets my dear child, we call
them "Grahas". So the Moon is also a Graha and neither a planet nor
a satellite, according to Ancient Astrology. Rahu and Ketu are also
called Grahas, though they are only shadows in the solar system,
which eclipse the Moon and Sun. So there is no confusion. Vedic
Astrology just believes in the seven grahas (loosely referred to as
Planets) and the two shadows called Rahu and Ketu.

Grahaparam Kotayahah Mukya Saptah meaning "We acknowledge the
existence of crores of heavenly bodies but consider only seven" is
linked to Karma and Astrology. How can we know which are the seven
important grahas? If you don't known them, don't worry. You already
know them as the seven days of the week - SUNday, MOONday, TUESday,
WEDNESday, THURSday, FRIday and SATURday.

RAHU and KETU are shadows so they decided to keep them in the
shadows with no corresponding weekdays. In Vedic Astrology, RAHU co-
rules Saturdays, while KETU co-rules Tuesdays.

Sun (Sunday) is the brightest and most important and therefore
listed first in all panchangas even from Lord Rama's time. That is
the 1st day of the week (though a holiday). Next graha in the
panchang is the Moon (Monday), as it is the second most prominent
luminary in the sky. Saturday is linked to Saturn, the farthest
graha in Astrology and hence the last weekday.

My question is simple. Why are the weekdays named after such grahas?
What is the origin of weekdays? Do they not correspond to grahas? If
yes, whenever more planets are discovered do we increase the number
of weekdays in a week? There are 12 months in a year because there
are 12 Janma Rasi as per Vedic Astrology. They discovered the 13th
sign 'Ophiuchus' but did they make it 13 months a year?

Ancient astrology called an Hour as Hora. Please note the close
resemblance. A day is divided into 60 Ghatis and each Ghati is sub
divided into 60 Vighatis. Currently, our clocks have a 60 minutes
and 60 seconds division. One Vighati is 24 seconds, so the ancient
astrologers used the 24-hour clock. What I am trying to tell is that
timings and dates are all based on astrological findings of ancient
India (the oldest civilization).

The planets in your horoscope are not the cause of your destiny as
much as the needles of a clock are not responsible for time. Suppose
a new watch company decides to increase the number of needles in the
clock, what effect will it have on time? If you break your watch,
even then time does not change or cease to exist. If you change the
time by simply turning the needles, does time change?

The seven grahas along with two shadow grahas are used to measure
your Karmic balance brought forward into your current life. Let
Pluto get out or Mickey Mouse come in – there is no effect on Vedic
Astrology because there are only nine grahas in your horoscope and
Vedic Astrology will remain unchanged forever.

Dr Singh better than Vajpayee, says Pakistan

1. Because he is weak :)
2. He didn't have the mandate of the people to become the PM (much like their President) Never won even a municipal election (courtesy Natwar Singh )
3. Quickly cave in to the Internation pressure (see his statements just after the Mumbai blasts and after a few days)
4. The big shift in India's stand vis cross-border terrorism as reflected in the joint statement between Dr Singh and Musharraf from that of Vajpayee and Musharraf.
Vajpayee: Peace process can't continue amidst cross border terrorism
Dr Singh: Peace process will not be affected by terrorist activities

Massive demolition of temples in Bangla: Why is our Govt mum?

By M.V. Kamath in samachar.com

Just think of this: Reports from Dhaka that the Khaleda Zia Government is considering relocating the Dhakeshwari Kali Temple the millennium-old shrine in the heart of the Bangladesh capital that gives the city its very name, has been conveniently suppressed by the English media. The Pioneer (June 9) alone had the courage to write an editorial on the subject.

According to this paper which was a tradition of over 120 years “Islamist parties that are partners in Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s coalition government have demanded that the temple be brought down and shifted to another area”.

“Appropriately” wrote the paper, it will establish Bangladesh’s gradual but certain decline into Islamic extremism and fulfil the ghoulish desire of the Islamists to make it a successor state to Mullah Omar’s Emirate of Afghanistan”, where, it will be remembered, the Islamic fundamentalists disfigured the beautiful mountain statues of the Buddha which had stood the ravages of time, until they became victims of the Islamic whateverone- may-like-to-call-them. But the forthcoming demolition of the Dhakheshwari Temple could not be an isolated event.

According to Taslima Nasrin, quoted by the columnist Praful Goradia, 69 not five, ten, or twenty but sixty nine-temples have been desecrated in Bangladesh in 1990, a clear two years before the Babri episode. Did our liberal, secular English media ever report this massive and deliberate crime? Not on your life. Thereafter, reports Goradia, “over 200 (temples) were martyred”. There is no record of our secular government ever once raising its feeble voice.

On 14 June The Times of India (and some other papers) reported that “the only Hindu temple” in Lahore has been demolished to pave the way for construction of a multi-storied commercial building.

The story was attributed to “agencies”. But within two days the report was contradicted. “The Krishna Temple is in perfect condition. I invite L. K. Advani to visit Lahore and pray at the temple”, Pakistan’s Daily Times quoted Minister for Religious Affairs Ejazul Haq as saying.

Indeed, said Mr Haq, seven lakh rupees had been spent on the temple renovation a few months ago. This report has been sent by UNI. But what are the so-called “agencies”, The Times of India quoted, doing? Is the Krishna Temple still standing? But the demolition of the Krishna Temple presuming that it is in the works, should not surprise anybody.

According to records available since 1947, as many as 244 mandirs, across eleven Pakistani districts have been destroyed and there has not been a squeal from our secular governments in Delhi. The message that Delhi has been sending out is clear:

Hindus do not care about the demolition or their temples and the desecration of their holy sites and the disfigurement of their idols. They had lived under such circumstances for one thousand years and what if a couple of hundred are presently desecrated?

After all, Islamic rulers had demolished over 3,000 odd temples over the centuries during their long and tyrannous rule so what if a few temples are desecrated now?

Our secularism has reached such glorious heights that our liberal, intellectual, secular Hindu `leaders’ get red under their collars if an inconsequential dargah which is not the same as a masjid is sought to be demolished in Vadodara to broaden a road, the dargah being not the only one to suffer that fate since some nineteen other Hindu mandirs also were similarly to be demolished.

But judging from the reaction of our English media it was as if a Hindu army was out to destroy the Jumma Masjid. And Narendra Modi become an instant target for our secularists’ fury.

India maintained an undignified silence when the Bamiyan monuments to Budha were disfigured by Islamic barbarians. What the Bamiyan Buddha is to Afghanistan, the Dhakhaeshwari Temple is to Bangladesh and yet all that one hears from Delhi is a deafening silence. But let some stupid Danish cartoonist dishonour the Prophet, our leaders jump into the fray.

We are secular, aren’t we? We should defend the honour of our minorities, shouldn’t we? This raises and important question: Shouldn’t we raise the question of constructing a temple on the Babri Masjid site and show our respect for Muslim sentiments by building a separate and even more beautiful Masjid for Muslims elsewhere?

The Babri site is holy for Hindus? In what way is the Babri site holy for Muslims? Praful Goradia (who is incidentally an authority on Islamic history) says that Janab A. A. Mansoorie of the Jamaat-e- IslamiHind had written to him as follows: “Islam forbids its believers to usurp the place/structure of worship of the people of other faiths. There is a strong and permanent fatwa in this regard, that no namaz is acceptable to Allah unless the mosque has been built by acquiring the piece of land legally.

Otherwise, Muslims should shun offering prayers. If, for some mosque it is proved that it was built violating Islamic injunctions, we Muslims have to withdraw....” It is a well-known fact that several thousand temples were demolished by Muslim invaders and masjids built over the sites.

Even Romilla Thapar will have to agree that Hindu temples were desecrated in Mathura and Varanasi as well. Is it too much to ask of our fellow Indians professing Islamic faith to be sensitive to Hindu feelings and to start with, at least agree to let the temple to Ram be built on the Babri site in Ayodhya?

Do they realise what a tremendous sense of gratitude will sweep among Hindus throughout the length and breadth of India? The worst enemiesof India are not our minorities but our misguided secularist Hindus who will not stand up for their faith if they have any.

There is very little or nothing that we can do to stop the demolition of the Dhakheshwari Kali Temple in Dhaka, just as we could do nothing to stop the disfigurement of the Bamiyan statues of the Buddha. We still have to be reassured that the Krishna Temple in Lahore stays. But no such guarantee is available.

Hatred of Hindus and of India is the ruling passion in Pakistani government circles and there is little that we can do to educate barbarians. Much the same can be said of the rulers in Bangladesh.

Sadly, we have a government in Delhi which is unresponsive to majority feelings in India for electoral reasons. If only Congress leaders would find time to read the collected works of Mahatma Gandhi they may rediscover their Indianness and think afresh.

Gandhi used to speak about politics without principles. He must have had the Congress of circa 2006 in mind.

Congress against anti-conversion laws: Sonia - Contd

Let's give the benefit of doubt to this Congress leader that she might not be well versed with the history of her own party (let alone about this great nation)

Let's go back in time:
1. Neyogi committee was formed in 1954 by Madhya Pradesh state Govt.
2. A Bill was passed in Orissa in 1967
3. A Bill was passed in Madhya Pradesh in 1968
4. A Bill was passed in Arunachal Pradesh in 1977

2,3, and 4 were passed following the recommendations of Rege and Niyogi Committees. And which party was in power in the above mentioned states that passed these bills ? It was none other than the Congress Party.

And who appointed the Niyogi Committee whose report was only to be shelved later ? You guessed it right, it was the Congress Govt in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Congress against anti-conversion laws: Sonia

Because you're ? Or because the leader of Vatican is against it ? Does Congress have a choice in this matter ? Probably Congress must take a look at the views of the original Mr M.K. Gandhi on the conversions especially against the christian missionaries if they really respect the father of the nation and its true leader.

http://www.stephen-knapp.com/mahatma_gandhi_on_conversion.htm

The princely states existed in this part of the country had passed such a law as early as 1930's even under the grip of the colonial rule. So don't think that it's simply something the State Govt has come up with some vested interests or with the next elections in mind.

Volcker panel indicts Natwar Singh

What is the gentleman PM going to do ? Be soft or take action or just sweep it under the carpet ? Will the report ever reach the parliament let alone to the public ?

Natwar Singh must be stripped off all the benefits from the Govt including the possible pension for being an MP or minister. He must be put behind the bars for the next thousand years along with all the others who have received the payoffs, for cheating the country, lying and a noble UN cause.

Declare Netaji ''national martyr'': Left

Though I second this, just can't imagine that it comes from the left. Since when they've become citizens of India and consider the nation's freedom struggle as freedom struggle ? These are the people who opposed the Independence of our nation and who were opposed to Indian Govt and army in the war against China.

Or is it because Bose is a Bengali or any elections around the corner ? or are they really trying hard to shed their anti-nationalists image everywhere except the cursed states of Kerala and WB ?

Pakistan builds plutonium reactor

So what's going to be the reaction of US ? Country like Pakistan running a nuclear walmart is rewarded with billions of dollars in Aid and arms for further "strengthening" and more arms and dollars for "supposedly cooperating in war against terrorism" whatever it means.

For being a responsible nuclear country what did we get ? CTBT through backdoor and a grand plan in the US senate to "cap and eliminate" our nuclear program. And our Govt without neither a strategy nor a vision of national security, agreed to the deal without any ratification by our own Parliament.

Now what's going to be the reaction of the stupids in Indian Govt ? Most probably nothing.

Let's leave history behind: Kasuri to India

Mr Kasuri wants India to forget about Kargil otherwise they will take up Siachen issue. I fail to understand what is there with Siachen. They just want us to pull out our troops so that they can pull out theirs from Siachen. Going by the history and the nature of the neighbor, it is dangerous for us to pull out of Siachen. If they don't have resources to man their side near Siachen, it's their problem and not ours. We've the resources and we must defend our side. We can't pull out just because you wanted us to and there is no guarantee that another Kargil type of misadventure will be repeated by Pakistan. But we can assure that we wouldn't do a thing like that.

Now going to back to Kargil, now that everything is in the open that it was designed, planned, directed and executed by the current President of Pakistan with (or without as per the former PM) the former PM in the loop. Doesn't it require a formal apology to India from your president in front of the International community. All along Pak maintained that their army was not involved and I said earlier, they didn't accept the bodies of their own dead soldiers.

And do we really need to engage in peace talks with a country headed by an Army General who managed the Kargil misadventure against us ?
